VIEW 2019 is approaching fast! The annual VFX / CG Conference opens on the 21st and goes until 25th October in the beautiful town of Turin in northern Italy. This is the 20th Conference in the series; a bit of a milestone.
The biggest ever lineup of speaking talent has just become a little larger, with some as-yet nameless VFX practitioners being signed up to speak. I’ve been told they have a solid background, working with dragons, fire, and snow. There’s a clue in there somewhere.
There really is an amazing lineup, including ten Academy Award Winners and seven movie directors. Directors like Jill Culton, Brad Bird, Dean DeBlois, Conrad Vernon, Sergio Pablos, Peter Ramsey, and Eric Darnell lead an all-star lineup.
“I’m thrilled to confirm our biggest and most diverse line-up ever,” says Conference CEO Dr. Maria-Elena Gutierrez. “VIEW brings together the world’s best and brightest minds across multiple disciplines, in a uniquely intimate and collaborative place where creatives can incubate and celebrate. One of the special reasons to attend VIEW is that our speakers like to stay for the entire week and attend talks given by the other speakers, so our attendees have many opportunities to interact, and enjoy.”

VIEW is also bringing back award-winning composer Michael Giacchino who will give a concert during VIEW Conference in addition to a keynote. There will also be a session digging into the animated effects of Frozen 2, the eagerly-awaited sequel to the Disney modern-day classic. And that’s right; that one hasn’t been released yet!
Also, Guy Williams from Weta Digital will be doing a special presentation about the very recent Gemini Man. Showing for the first time how they made Will Smith young again for this amazing production.
Also along will be some of the world’s top game developers – the executives and the artists. This includes CH Kim, Siobhan Reddy, and Todd Hue; Michael Fukushima, the studio director for the National Film Board of Canada will be there, as well as Maureen Fan, co-founder and CEO of Baobab Studios. The head of Industrial Light and Magic, Rob Bredow will talk about the history behind the Star Wars story, and his long part in it; Daniel Zajfman, President, Weizmann Institute of Science; Siobhan Reddy, Studio Director and Co-Founder Media Molecule (Little Big Planet), and the legendary Josh Holmes, CEO and Co-Founder, Midwinter Entertainment.
The trip into Italy and up to Turin is worth it, just to experience such an amazing classic city. To have such a successful, immeasurably valuable conference such as VIEW sitting there at the OGR venue, is pure magic.
