Countdown to VIEW

There are now even more reasons to register for the VFX ride of the year.

As preparations for VIEW 2018, Italy’s largest digital media conference finalize into fine-tuning, Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez has announced some surprise, last-minute speakers, all set to present a seriously compelling list of workshops and masterclasses.

VIEW Conference will be showing the European premiere of SIGGRAPH’s 2018 Computer Animation Festival.  Director Carlos Baena will host the Italian premiere of La Noria during VIEW’s digital movie festival, VIEWFEST, happening as a prelude to the VIEW Conference, on 19-21 October.

Joining the list of previously announced speakers at VIEW 2018 are VFX Supervisor Thomas Hullin presenting Rodeo FX’s work on Game of Thrones, Rise Visual Effects’ Executive VFX Producer Florian Gellinger, showing that studio’s work on Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Weta Digital’s Head of R&D Paolo Emilio Selva discussing technology innovations at Weta Digital. In addition, Animation Director Troy Saliba and Digital Effects Supervisor Aharon Bourland from Double Negative will present their work on Venom.

Two previously unannounced events at VIEW include sessions for game developers on the Sunday prior to the conference and a panel featuring women in animation on the last day of the conference.

The October 21 sessions offer game developers keys to success: “Learn to Deliver a Perfect Business Pitch with Some of the Best Game Venture Capitalists”, and “Learn to Make a Business Pitch” with Glenn Entis, co-founder PDI, co-founder and senior advisor Vanedge Capital, former CEO DreamWorks Interactive, and former Senior Vice President of Electronic Arts.  Around about the time I’ll be landing in from Rome.  If I’m able, I’ll go straight there.

The special Women in Animation panel will feature Paramount Animation President Mireille Soria, Cartoon Saloon Creative Director Nora Twomey, Pixar Director of Photography Danielle Feinberg, and LAIKA Storyboard Artist Emanuela Cozzi.

In addition to talks by leading scholars, directors, artists, writers, and animators, VIEW offers workshops and masterclasses by many top professionals.
